Background: In 2006 I (Diana) taught summer school to a combined grade 7-8 group of students. The goal was to increase their literacy and numeracy skills. I decided to make my unit theme on games - video games specifically. I tried to make arrangements with the board's ICT department to download Runescape on the computers at the school where I was scheduled to teach. There were two summer school site administrators for this location and one of the site principals was very displeased that I intended to use computers in such a fashion. Through much negotiating, I was only permitted to use the computers if an EA was directly supervising all student activity and I was not allowed to download any programs. I had just taken a course with Beth Gallway and Robin Brenner that recommended some games and so I used those they suggested. The following links were my daily lesson plans.
